Vietnam issued PSMA procedures
As an effort from SEA-IUU program, a cooperations among Nha Trang University (NTU), Australian Partners and Vietnamese Authorities, one-week Workshop on finalizing the PSMA procedures for Vietnam was implemented on this February 2025 to enhance the capacity of fisheries management officers in controlling foreign fishing vessels entering Vietnamese ports. Nha Trang University and the Australian Fisheries Management Authority played supporting roles, providing technical expertise on PSMA procedures based on FAO agreement guides

On 24th July 2025, Ministry of Agriculture & Environment( MAE) has issued Decision No.2828/QD-BNNMT on issuing procedures on control foreign vessels fishing, transporting, transshipping fishery products from wild-caught to landing, temporary import, re-export, transit through Vietnam territory.
The purposes of developing these procedures for inspection and control of foreign vessels fishing, transporting, and transshipping aquatic products and aquatic products originating from exploitation at ports to carry out import, temporary import, re-export, temporary export, re-import, transit, and transit activities through the territory of Vietnam according to the Agreement on Port State Measures to prevent and combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing of the FAO (PSMA Agreement).
By issuing this PSMA procedure, Vietnam will control imported raw fishery materials and prevent and combating IUU fisheries products imported illegally into Vietnam territory.
