NTU co-organize PSMA Workshop in Danang, Vietnam

The workshop took place from February 18 to February 21, 2025 in Da Nang, with technical support from the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA). The event attracted the participation of nearly 40 delegates from many agencies, departments and sectors directly related to the implementation of the PSMA Agreement, including: Ms. Monica Finlayson – Agricultural Counselor, Australian Embassy in Hanoi; leaders of the Department of Fisheries Surveillance; experts from the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA); leaders and lecturers of Nha Trang University; and representatives from the Customs Department, the Maritime Department, the Legal Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), the Department of Fisheries, the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development, the Veterinary Department, the local Border Guard, and a number of designated ports where foreign vessels landing

The PSMA workshop is part of the Implementation Plan of the Department of Fisheries Surveillance, aiming to enhance the capacity of fisheries management officers in controlling foreign fishing vessels entering Vietnamese ports. Nha Trang University and the Australian Fisheries Management Authority played a supporting role, providing technical expertise to ensure the success of the workshop.

At the Workshop, the existing SOP on foreign vessels inspections was introduced to all participants as well as related international regulations including sharing experiences from Australian Partners. Then, participants have commended to finalize the SOP which suitable with Vietnam contexts. The Workshop not only have important roles on finalizing the SOP, but also contribute the efforts to Vietnam on combating IUU fishing.
